To discover Florence properly, it needs at least 3 days. One can easily visit by foot, the historical center isn’t very extended.
It is especially the Renaissance which has left the most beautiful testimonies of history, with its majestic Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore (Duomo), the Ponte Vecchio, the Uffizi Gallery, Piazza dei Signori Square and Others.

Piazza del Duomo : 1/2 day

duomo of florence Dominating the city with its majestic dome, the Duomo (Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore) is the most emblematic building of the city. You can of course visit the interior, but it is advisable to climb into the dome from which you can enjoy a panoramic view of Florence, as well as discover the splendid fresco that covers the interior of the dome. Dating from the 15th century, this one was painted by Brunelleschi.

The Cathedral Square is also occupied by the Campanile, with the bas-reliefs of Giotto, and the Baptistery and its famous Bronze Paradise Gate.

Piazza della Signoria : 1/2 day – one day

palazzo vecchio, florence This square is the historical heart of the city, dominated by the Palazzo Vecchio, the former political seat of the Republic of Florence, and then apartments of the Medici under the Duchy of Tuscany. Its museum houses famous works.

Next to the palace is the most important museum in Florence: the Uffizi Museum, whose collections are remarkable, from the sculptures from antiquity to the paints of the Renaissance.

Churches, Bargello : one day

In the church of San Lorenzo are buried several members of the Medici and it houses works of Michelangelo.
The church of Santa Maria Novella houses sumptuous frescoes.
The Bargello Palace preserves splendid sculptures.
The church of Santa Croce houses the tombs of Galilee, Michelangelo and Machiavelli. Its cloister preserves paintings by Giotto.

Palazzo Pitti, ponte Vecchio, and around : one day

ponte vecchio à florence One of the emblems of Florence, is the famous Ponte Vecchio (Old Bridge), covered and inhabited, which spans the Arno. It allows to reach the other shore where is the Pitti Palace (Palazzo Pitti), another important museum of Florence. This massive palace was another residence of the Medici from the 16th century. It hosts splendid works of the Renaissance, including some of Raphael, Botticelli, Veronese, Caravaggio, Titian, Tintoretto.

Walking a little (a few stairs), or by car, you can reach Piazzale Michelangelo, where you can enjoy one of the most beautiful views of Florence.
