The Val d’Elsa, more simply called Valdelsa, runs along the river Elsa between Florence and Siena, a tributary of the Arno. It is divided between its upper part, called “Alta Valdelsa” in the Siena province, and by its lower part called “Bassa Valdelsa” in the province of Florence.
In the Alta Valdelsa, we can mention Colle Val D’Elsa and Poggibonsi, but above all Monteriggioni with its protected village of the splendid circular medieval enclosure, and the incomparable San Gimignano with its medieval towers.
In the Bassa Valdelsa, the most popular destinations are Certaldo, Empoli which is the most important town, and San Miniato further downstream in the province of Pisa.
