Tuscany has a long tradition of skilled craftsmen in many fields who create items now considered as “typical products” of Tuscany.

Craft

  • Jewellery, including gold jewellery, sold for example on the Ponte Vecchio in Florence.
  • Red terracotta tiles from Impruneta, found on roofs and floors in the region.
  • Blacksmiths continue to create wrought iron beds, tables and more.
  • Carpenters who carve wooden tables and other furniture by hand.
  • Italian leather jackets, leather bags, often sold in the centre of Florence and around the Arno valley.
  • Sculptures and creations carved in alabaster stone in Volterra.
  • Coloured ceramics from Montelupo.
  • The artisans of Scarperia in the Mugello valley are known for their knife-making.

Gastronomy

  • Many red wines such as Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Maremma wines like Bolgheri, etc.
  • Extra olive oil, one of the tastiest in Italy.
  • The many pecorino cheeses, made from sheep’s milk, as in Pienza in Val di Chiana.
  • Meat such as Cinta Senese (pig breed), beef (especially Steak in Florentine style), charcuterie.
  • Pork and Pork Products from Wild Boar
