A few kilometres from Montepulciano, Chianciano Terme is a modern spa town with numerous thermal facilities and spas, close to the old medieval village of Chianciano crowned by a promontory. It is not very touristy, and very pleasant to discover.
Chianciano
The Chianciano village was Etruscan and Roman. In the old town, there are beautiful buildings such as the clock tower, which is reached by the street entering the village, next to which there is a esplanade with a view and some bars. Piazza Matteotti has an elegant 18th century fountain and some palaces. The village also has pretty suggestive alleys in part vaulted, or the castle of Manenti with its medieval towers.
The collegiate church of Chianciano dates from the 13th century, of Romanesque origin and with its neoclassical elements in the early 19th century. It houses paintings from the Sienese school. The church of the Immaculate dates back to the late 16th century.
The Collegiate Museum, in the Archdiocese’s palace, is a museum of sacred art, which exhibits works from the 13th to 19th centuries, with paintings (some of them by Sodoma), but also sacred furniture and ornaments, precious crucifix, stained glass.
Chianciano Terme
In the modern city of Chiancano Terme, developed from the early twentieth century and especially in the 1940s, there are several facilities, including spa, sports areas, gardens, thermal baths, etc.

The Sensory Baths are designed to regenerate body and mind, based on traditional thermal treatments and also oriental practices. This facility has 20 treatment rooms, including the salt room, river, calidarium and melmarium, etc.
The Parco Acqua Santa is a thermal park dating back to the end of the First World War, on a park of 7 hectares with the thermal spring that springs at 33 degrees from a cave.
